Getting Started

JABBA stands for "Just Another Budgeting App" - but it's so much more! JABBA helps you track your financial commitments (bills, subscriptions, loans), import bank transactions, and see your true available balance after accounting for upcoming payments.

Unlike traditional budgeting apps that focus on categorizing past spending, JABBA helps you plan ahead by showing you what money is actually available after your commitments are covered.

Getting started with JABBA is easy:

  1. Download JABBA from the App Store
  2. Enter your current bank balance - this is your starting point
  3. Add your commitments - bills, subscriptions, and other recurring payments
  4. Import transactions (optional) - download a CSV from your bank and import it
  5. View your True Balance - see what's actually available after commitments

Absolutely. JABBA is built with a "local-first" approach:

  • Your financial data is stored on your device, not our servers
  • We never have access to your bank login credentials
  • If you enable multi-device sync, your data is encrypted before leaving your device
  • We only store minimal metadata needed to sync between devices

Importing Bank Statements

To import transactions:

  1. Log into your bank's website or app
  2. Download your transaction history as a CSV file
  3. In JABBA, tap the Import button
  4. Select your CSV file
  5. JABBA's AI will automatically detect the columns (date, amount, description, balance)
  6. Review the detected mappings and confirm

JABBA supports CSV files from virtually any bank worldwide!

If you're having trouble importing a CSV file:

  • Check the file format: Make sure it's a .csv file, not .xlsx or .pdf
  • Review column detection: After importing, verify the AI correctly identified date, amount, and description columns
  • Manual override: If the AI misidentified a column, you can manually select the correct mapping
  • Date format: Different banks use different date formats - JABBA handles most formats automatically

Yes! If your CSV includes a running balance column, JABBA will detect it and offer to update your current balance to match the most recent transaction's balance.

This helps keep your True Balance calculations accurate without manually updating your balance.

Subscription & Billing

Every new user gets a 75-day free trial with full access to all features. Here's how it works:

  • Your trial starts automatically when you first open JABBA
  • No credit card or payment info is required
  • After day 30, you'll see a countdown showing days remaining
  • You can subscribe at any time during or after your trial

When your trial ends:

  • Your data is safe - we never delete your financial data
  • You can still view everything - all your transactions, commitments, and balances remain accessible
  • Import & AI features are disabled - you'll need to subscribe to import new transactions or use AI features

Subscribe anytime to restore full access!

To cancel your subscription:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find JABBA in the list and tap it
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription

Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.

If you've previously subscribed and set up JABBA on a new device:

  1. Open JABBA and sign in with your email
  2. Go to Settings → Subscription
  3. Tap Restore Purchases

Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.

Multi-Device Sync

To enable multi-device sync:

  1. Sign in with your email on both devices
  2. Go to Settings → Sync
  3. Enable sync on each device
  4. Your data will automatically sync when connected to the internet

Your data is encrypted before leaving your device, so even we can't read it.

JABBA handles sync conflicts intelligently:

  • Most conflicts are resolved automatically based on timestamps
  • If a conflict can't be auto-resolved, you'll be prompted to choose which version to keep
  • The conflict resolution screen shows you both versions so you can make an informed choice

AI Features

When you have a shortfall (more commitments due than available funds), JABBA's AI can help you figure out the best approach:

  • Mark commitments as "Essential" (must pay) or "Flexible" (can defer if needed)
  • Set priority factors like "Accrues Interest" for debts with penalties
  • Tap "See Options" to get AI-generated strategies
  • Compare 2-3 different approaches with trade-offs explained

Important: AI strategies are suggestions, not financial advice. Always make your own informed decisions.

Only anonymized data is sent for AI processing:

  • What we send: Amounts, categories, due dates, priority settings
  • What we never send: Your name, email, account numbers, merchant names, or transaction descriptions

AI processing is stateless - no data is retained after your request is processed. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Privacy & Security

To delete your account:

  1. Go to Settings → Account
  2. Tap Delete Account
  3. Confirm your choice

This will:

  • Delete all data from our servers immediately
  • Remove your device registrations
  • Delete local data from the current device

We retain a backup for 6 months in case you want to come back. Contact us if you need immediate permanent deletion.

No. JABBA never connects directly to your bank. Instead, you download a CSV file from your bank and import it into JABBA.

This approach means:

  • We never have your bank login credentials
  • You have full control over what data you import
  • Works with any bank that offers CSV downloads

Troubleshooting

If JABBA is running slowly:

  • Close and reopen the app - this clears temporary memory
  • Restart your device - frees up system resources
  • Update to the latest version - we regularly improve performance
  • Check available storage - ensure your device has sufficient free space

If issues persist, contact us with details about your device and the specific slowness you're experiencing.

If you're not receiving verification emails:

  • Check your spam/junk folder - the email may have been filtered
  • Wait a few minutes - email delivery can sometimes be delayed
  • Verify your email address - make sure there are no typos
  • Try requesting a new code - use the "Resend Code" option
  • Check if your email provider is blocking us - add jabba@oneway.co.nz to your contacts

If you still can't receive codes, contact us from a different email address and we'll help resolve the issue.

If your True Balance doesn't seem right:

  • Update your current balance - make sure it matches your actual bank balance
  • Check commitment due dates - verify dates are set correctly
  • Review commitment amounts - ensure amounts match your actual bills
  • Check for paused commitments - paused items aren't included in calculations
  • Verify your pay period settings - JABBA calculates based on your pay cycle
